What’s the best part about having a baby? Going shopping!
Okay, that’s not the best part. The best parts are the snuggles and the newborn smell and the tiny fingers and watching your older child become a big brother. But going shopping is pretty good too, especially when it’s your second boy and you have an excuse to buy new stuff. (Actually, having a teeny tiny baby is sort of an excuse to buy new stuff, because he swims in the stuff his older brother only wore for a few days, but anyway…)
I’m never one to say no to shopping for baby stuff —it’s so cute! It’s so small! — which I have an opportunity to do after being selected as an ambassador for Sears – The Baby’s Room.
Somewhat related aside: My dad always refers to Sears as Simpsons-Sears, which it hasn’t been since the 70s. Since I’m such a spring chicken (ha ha) I don’t actually remember when it was called that but I don’t remember him ever calling it anything else.
In any case, that outdated name always sort of fit with my impression of the store, at least the baby department. I’d been in there a few times looking for gifts and we went in there looking for some things when Connor was born, but they had very little.
But no more!
The deal with this program is that Sears wants people to know about The Baby’s Room, because they’ve totally overhauled that section of the store. There are five sections: nursery section (beds, change tables, décor etc.), travel section (car seats, etc.), feeding (high chair, bottles, utensils etc.), bath and accessories (tubs, rings and sinks, etc.) and gifting (rattles, layettes, etc.).
Determined not to buy the whole store in one go, I took Ethan in for a visit. (He slept through it, but I don’t think that’s indicative of his impression of the store.)
Alphabet bedding? Oh my yes. I resisted this only because we have a cute owl-themed nursery going, but if we had another baby (we’re NOT having another baby) I’d totally go for an alphabet theme. (Maybe we should have another – this is seriously cute.)
These humidifiers rock, and if (when) we need one for Ethan’s room I’ll buy one. Except Connor will probably want it (even though he has a cute frog humidifier). In any case, this is the same brand as the one he has (different type of design, though) and I really like his. Easy to clean, which is my main criterion (darling elephants being a close second).
The baby clothes in there were adorable. I would have bought a bunch, except that my little dude is so little he would swim in any normal sizes. I did get one preemie-sized outfit though. Poor guy doesn’t have anything except sleepers and one day he might want to have some pants so he can maintain his dignity when he goes to the grocery store.
The feeding section was awesome too. I will definitely be back to browse some more when we get to the solids stage.
I know a couple of dads who might go for the hockey-themed stuff too (and I love the kidsline brand). How much more Canadian can you get?
There’s a lot of stuff to choose from and as the program continues I’ll be back to browse around some more. After all, Christmas is coming and mama needs somewhere to shop!
Disclosure: I am part of the Sears – The Baby’s Room Ambassador program with Mom Central Canada and I receive special perks as part of my affiliation with this group. The opinions on this blog are my own.
